Several known treatments for hair loss come in different forms. But while some of them do work, they can be very messy and, worse, produce bad side effects.

A safe yet very effective treatment to the devastating effects of baldness is low level laser hair loss therapy.

What Is LLLT?

Low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been around for more than 35 years now. Initially, medical institutions have been skeptical about it. But it gradually became popular in Europe and now widely used in the U.S. as a treatment for several conditions such as killing pain, healing lesions, and/or stopping nicotine addiction.

Today in the cosmetics industry, it is also gaining wide acceptance for treating a serious medical condition called Alopecia, or in layman’s term – hair loss. Laser therapy is a non-surgical, non-chemical procedure mostly performed in hair clinics and salons. It has no documented side effects. But take note: it is no less effective than any other forms of treatment.

How LLLT Works

Low level laser therapy uses a cold beam laser which is different from natural light in that laser is compressed. Unlike high level laser, cold laser doesn’t have the thermal element to cut through or burn skin, hence it is very safe. Low level laser is classified as a non-significant risk laser.

Under laser hair loss therapy, cold laser light is emitted onto the scalp to invigorate cells and induce growth of new hair follicles. Specifically, through a natural process called Photo-Biostimulation, light energy becomes cellular energy which will increase cellular metabolism. Blood circulation around the scalp area will then improve, thereby impeding the course of hair loss and producing new strands of hair.

LLLT has been a subject of more than 2,500 scientific researches worldwide because of its seen effects on the living cells. A European study has it that LLL hair loss treatment has controlled the process of hair loss in 85% of patients while induced new hair growth in 55% of patients.

Clinical and Home Therapy

On the downside, clinical laser therapy can be very expensive. Hair clinics and salons may charge up to approximately $5,000 for a 6- to 12-month therapy session which entails multiple visits. This is the primary reason people don’t hear much about laser therapy.

There are, on the one hand, readily accessible take-home laser combs designed to treat hair loss using LLLT. These are medical devices which are handy, very easy to use, and don’t cost as much as a clinical laser therapy. Yes, it is used at a one-time expense. Not only does it provide the benefits of home-use, it also works effectively as the other kind of therapy.

LLLT is a major breakthrough for people going through a rough ride due to hair loss.  Whether it be a clinical or home laser therapy, low level laser hair loss therapy has been proven safe and very effective.
